Red chandan, also known as red sandalwood, Rakta Chandana, or Lal Chandan (in Hindi), is derived from the Pterocarpus santalinus tree. It is native to India and found in the Eastern Ghats of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka. Unlike white sandalwood (Santalum album), red chandan lacks a distinctive aroma but is valued for its deep red heartwood.
